TRADE AND MARKETING Modernised Europatat allows companies as members At its 2010 conference, which was recently held in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, Europatat presented its new organisational structure for the coming years. ‘New Articles of Association and new rules, which aim for a modern and more efficient structure for the European trade in seed and consumption potatoes’, this is how Romain Cools, the resigning secretary, formulated the drastic changes. One of the biggest changes is that both national organisations and individual companies can now be members of the trade organisation. Kees van Arendonk: ‘The fact that both national organisations and individual companies can now participate in Europatat contributes to faster responses to changes in the rules and regulations’, says Kees van Arendonk. ‘What is most important in the new Articles of Association is the wish to operate as a non-profit-making, free trade organisation in today’s Europe, whilst fully observing its laws and regulations. This legal status is necessary so that the world recognises the organisation as being transparent and having an accepted structure’, says Europatat President Kees van Arendonk. His view is that the new Articles and the internal rules have resulted in a better balance between the nationalities of the affiliated European countries.
