Miedema CP 42 P now ready for real work CULTIVATION AND TECHNOLOGY Russia and Eastern Europe, where Miedema does a lot of business. Most of the fifteen planting combinations sold so far are now driving around in those countries. The cultivator can be disconnected from the planter and that makes this combination more attractive than the All-in-One. The cultivator attached to the CP 42 P is an AVR Compact and not an AVR Multivator, explains Jos den Boer of AVR. A Compact is not a suitable tillage tool for preparing arable land. The cultivator hooks are longer and differently shaped compared to the Multivator. Long hooks are more suitable for ridging and short hooks for planting and preparing beds. The Compact can be used, however, for activities such as with stubble cultivators for grassland and grass seed land, according to Den Boer. Growers who want to combine an AVR Multivator in the same work passage as planting will have to choose another combination. This may be a Multivator in the front or one at the back. When mounted at the back, the potato planter is attached to the cultivator and pulled. A disadvantage of this combination is that it is longer than the CP 42 P. Combination with belt-type potato planter on its way In the Netherlands, the interest in the CP 42 P has so far been limited to contractors and potato growers who only grow consumption potatoes. Those who also grow seed potatoes often prefer a combination of a cultivator and a belt-type potato planter, says Metz, which is why Miedema also showed one of those in Klaaswaal. This was a tractor with GPS control and a cultivator in the front and at the back a pulled belt-type potato planter with an extra GPS control on the pole. With this combination, the tractor was, in fact, equipped with special wheels. According to tractor driver huisman, Miedema is now also developing a combination of a pulled cultivator connected to a belt-type potato planter in imitation of the CP 42 P. Devotees of a belt-type potato planter as a pulled compact machine who also prefer a Miedema will have to be patient for a while. ● Leo Hanse The Smart-fload, in-depth setting ensures that the cultivator accurately follows the unevenness of the field, so that the planting depth and ridge height are consistent along the entire length of the field. Miedema has intimated that they are meanwhile also be developing a combination of a pulled cultivator connected to a belt-type potato planter in imitation of the CP 42 P. In Klaaswaal, they were still demonstrating a combination with a front cultivator. Potato World 2011 • number 1 25 Pagina 24
