The basis is always a variety that has a consistent and constant good quality. Quik often uses the Agria variety for this. It was not always easy this year to find the proper lots with constant quality. Because Quik has his own purchasing branch, they are well informed where the fresh market is concerned, the director of the processing branch tells us. ‘This is how we can always find the required amount of quality potatoes. In addition, we fry all our potatoes in sunflower oil, which is healthy and gives a pleasant taste to the freshly pre-fried products.’ Pictures clearer than figures In addition to the trade in fresh fruit and vegetable products, participation by the machinery branch at Fruit Logistica has also increased enormously in recent years. In the Tolsma Techniek stand, Maarten van Delden shows us the company’s latest storage computer: the Vision control. Practice has shown that pictures allow for much more understanding than tables with the same information, Van Delden remarks. At the same time, it is possible to use this storage computer via the internet, thus enabling monitoring and adjusting from a distance. Tolsma has already sold the computer to growers in India. Thanks to the internet connection, the company’s storage specialists can supervise and help the growers in that country without having to travel to them. Fast packager feeds palleting machine in the best possible way At Pro Pack, enthusiastic Jouke van der Meer and John Kirpesteijn speak about the new 16-bin weigher with which customers can load pallets with 25 kilogram net bags faster. ‘Modern weighers like those from our parent organisation, Verbruggen, can stack over 2 tons per hour. That is what we have to try and emulate with our Pro Pack weighing and packaging machine. To combine the 16-bin weigher with two net bag machines, we can send 1,800 kilograms to the palleting machine per hour. That is a wonderful argument for our customers to invest in this machine. ’Especially this year, with lots of export, Van der Meer sees quite a demand in the Dutch and American markets. The new machine requires an investment of 85,000 euros, VAT excluded. ● Jaap Delleman Jouke van der Meer (centre back) and John Kirpesteijn give the ‘thumbs up’ for the new 16-bin weigher.
