RE SEARCH Cross planting gives more same-size tubers Already in 2006, the Durk and Elise BiermaModderman Partnership in the village of Waaxens in the Dutch province of Friesland signalled that cross planting in a 90 cm ridge provided a 10 percent higher yield of the same size. This year, thanks to a 150,000 euro subsidy from the A7/Westergo Project, they were able to introduce their more extensive once-time test and start a solid threeyear trial. LTO Noord Projects handles the coordination, while Mechanisation Company Broekens from Stiens and potato trading company HZPC from Joure contribute their knowledge and experience. 34 Potato World 2014 • number 3 Pagina 33
