When you enter the building of the worldwide broadcasting station, you immediately see a big difference with our own editorial bureau as you step into a complete food court. A wide range of fast-food restaurants in the enormous reception hall present themselves to the staff and the passing public such as me. The reason for this is that the CNN building is also the Number One tourist attraction in the centre of Atlanta. Here – which of course pleased me no end – you can eat a wide range of processed potato products! Ideal to try out while waiting for a tour of the building at 16 dollars per person. For the restaurant owners it’s a wonderful way to attract extra attention to their own brand products and possibly new sales channels. Another thing that struck me is that European technology seems to be getting a firm foothold in America. I can also see this in the increasing interest in PotatoWorld magazine. To be able to face the fierce competition in the worldwide potato market, knowledge is essential in order to make the necessary investments in the right way. In an interview with our magazine, Marco Boot, General Manager of NNZ-inc, points to the worldwide trend whereby consumers are increasingly wanting to buy packaged potatoes. He lets the market lead him as regards the products he offers his customers and in order to stand out in the world market. For suppliers of consumption potatoes it’s important to have a continuous target market to ensure a good price for their potatoes. This applies in years with low prices as well as those with high ones. Jaap Delleman Potato World 2015 • number 4 3 Pagina 2
