PW-ACTUA Joint venture Linkage-Farm Frites invests in Dutch technology During the World Potato Congress (WPC) in the Chinese capital of Beijing, the Chinese government reported that by 2025 a total of 40 percent of Chinese potato production should be sold to the processing industry. As the entire potato harvest is estimated to be 220 million tons, this means that a total of 88 million tons of potatoes will be processed annually. To accomplish this objective, the Chinese are investing in cultivation, storage and modern factories. Recently, it was made known that the Chinese company Mongolia Linkage Potato Co and the Dutch processor Farm Frites have given concrete form to the plans they presented last year. The Chinese Inner Mongolia Linkage Potato Co in Wudan recently invested in Dutch technology in order to be able to produce 70,000 tons of chips annually from 2017. Last year, the Chinese company entered into a joint venture with the Dutch processor The aim is for plans presented last year by Jochem Rovers (l) and Yan Hongzhi of Linkage to be realised by 2017. Farm Frites. In the joint venture, Farm Frites owns 25 percent of the shares and Linkage 75 percent. Moreover, Linkage is itself already active in the starch market. In order to fully integrate the cultivation and storage of seed and consumption potatoes, Jochem Rovers of Farm Frites has been appointed Deputy CEO of the joint venture. The collaboration between the Dutch and the Chinese focuses on the development of knowledge and the increase of the hectare yield, thereby further reducing the cost price of potatoes. Dutch suppliers The Chinese government reported that by 2025 a total of 40 percent of Chinese potato production should be sold to the processing industry. In May 2016, the Dutch company APH signed a contract with Mongolia Linkage Potato Co for the supply of a complete Miedema potato and transport line and an Omnivent storage line. The aim is to deliver the entire project in August 2017, so that the factory can then run at full capacity under the name of Inner Mongolia Linkage Farm Frites Co. In addition, the Dutch company Kiremko announced that when the factory has been completed, Kiremko will be the main supplier and integrator of a completely new processing and packaging line. For the design of the processing line of LinkageFarm Frites, Kiremko will closely collaborate with its own partners and a number of suppliers that have been selected by Farm Frites. The essential section of the processing line will be designed and constructed by Kiremko istelf. Kiremko expects the first coated chips to leave the factory during the 2017 harvest season. Once the line is operational, the Chinese factory will have a productive capacity of 10,000 kilograms per hour, with the possibility to expand this capacity further in the future. ● 12 Potato World 2016 • number 3 Pagina 11
