PW-ACTUA Official start Dutch 2g@there program GITAH in Argentina From March 15th till 18th the yearly potato show “Fiesta de la Papa” was held in the town Otamendi in the southeast of Argentina. During this exhibition the GITAH project was launched. GITAH stands for “Grupo de Intercambio Technologico Argentino - Holandes”. This Dutch 2g@there project was initiated by Farm Frites and supported by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. GITAH is an initiative in which leading Argentine and Dutch companies cooperate in the potato sector to merge the best knowledge to innovate the Argentine potato sector. This potato production innovation program is dedicated to the complete chain of efficiency and quality improvement and aims for long term results. The program results will be constantly followed, evaluated and presented in demonstration projects throughout different regions in Argentina. For the official opening people were invited from Pepsico, McCain, Farm Frites, Mercado Central, the Ministry of Agriculture of Argentina, the INTA, the Potato Federation, HZPC and several potato growers. From Holland several participants in GITAH represented the group during the opening in Otamendi. These representatives were: Jos den Boer from Farm Frites, Jan van Laar from the consultancy organisation Agriment International, Alfred Rol from Dacom and Harco Christiaens from APH Group. High quality crops During the opening several speakers explained different processes in this program. Freek Vossenaar, the agricultural counsellor of the Netherlands in Argentina explained the added value of the modern Dutch technologies for the future innovations of the Argentine agricultural sector. Jos den Boer looked back, as initiator, on the history of the establishment of the project. The challenge is to adjust the present growing techniques in Argentina in such way that high quality crops can be produced, suitable for modern processing firms and supermarkets. Merge of knowledge During Fiesta de la Papa several machines, with innovative Dutch techniques, were demonstrated. The GITAH project is the platform to implement and proof these technologies to be adapted in Argentina via demo projects in the most efficient way. These demo projects will allow the participants to find proof for suitability in Argentina and will be supported by training, education and knowledge exchange during seminars and field days where specialists from Argentina and the Netherlands cooperate.
