PW-ACTUA Presentation of the fifth generation of Dewulf R3060 At the end of April, lifting machinery manufacturer Dewulf from Roeselare (B) presented their new R3060. It’s already the 5th generation of the well-known three-wheeled, self-prOpelled, 2-row potato and root-vegetable harvester. The most important changes to this latest model are the cabin, driving control and engine. It’s quite an achievement, to have been successful for twenty-five years with the same type of lifter: a three-wheeled, self-prOpelled, two-row harvester. It can easily be compared with the motor car concept of the Volkswagen Golf, which also sees new generations appear again and again. And yet the hunger for this red harvester is still not satisfied, is the message of co-owner of the family business Karel Decramer. Dewulf sells around a total of 100 every year, 80 percent as a potato harvester and 20 percent as a chicorycarrot harvester. Although the demand for bigger machines such as the 4-wheeled ones is At the end of April, lifting machinery manufacturer Dewulf from Roeselare (B) presented their new R3060. increasing slowly but surely, there is still a global need for flexible harvesters such as the 3060. Not only far away, but also close to home. ‘For example, many contractors in Northern Europe would prefer several 2-row harvesters among their machinery than one or two 4-row ones You can serve two customers at the same time and the capacity of a 2-row machine often fits in better with the mechanisation plan of the grower. Think of trailers and storage machinery’, Dewulf representative Bernardus Smits tells us. Moreover, a lifter such as the latest R3060 is available in at least eight different operating levels, from easy to difficult lifting conditions, which is also an important argument, in the opinion of Smits and Decramer. Completely new is the cabin from the youngest Claas generation, spacious, quiet, 360-degree vision, in short, comfortable. Comfortable cabins and environmentally-friendly engines. In order to keep up with the times, Dewulf regularly adapts the lifter and this is generation number 5. Completely new is the cabin from the youngest Claas generation, spacious, quiet, 360-degree vision, in short, comfortable, Smits shows us. It also has the new joystick driving control mounted with programmable full settings. This means that you can change settings easily under changing lifting conditions by pushing a button. Another novelty is the engine. After 25 years of Deutz, Dewulf changed over to Scania, among other things, because of the environmentally-friendly construction. This source of energy is a Tier-IV design completed with AdBleu equipment. The Scania more than meets the applicable European standards for the emission of combustion gases. Furthermore, some adjustments have been made in the electro-hydraulic switchboards and the accessibility of the harvester. ‘The purchase price of a complete version with axial set is between 320,000 and 325,000 euros, depending on the options chosen’, according to Smits. ● IPM is now the IPM Potato Group The potato trading company and breeding station Irish Potato Marketing Limited (IPM) has been active in the potato sector since 1950. Because of its far-reaching internationalisation, the company has now changed its name to ‘‘IPM Potato Group Limited’. In its first years, IPM’s head office and breeding station were situated in its home country of Ireland. The company’s original objective was to export Irish seed and consumption potatoes to the countries around the Mediterranean. In 1970, the company started developing new varieties. As a result of the growing market, in 1990, the company moved part of the seed potato production to Scotland. Ten years later, IPM opened a business location in the Netherlands and - again ten years later - one in Brazil and in France. This means that IPM is no longer an Irish company with a few branches here and there, but an internationally-operating organisation with several branches and agents, who are active worldwide in marketing its own varieties and seed potatoes. In order to communicate this development clearly to existing and potential customers, IPM decided to change its name.
