RE SEARCH Tubers have always received more attention than the roots in potato research and potato breeding. In itself understandable. Nevertheless, knowledge of the root system is important in order to be able to work effectively on robust varieties, varieties that perform better under abiotic stress conditions such as drought, salinity, flooding, or a lower nitrogen input. Researcher Jan Henk Venema from the University of Groningen (RUG) is working on this.
