Browsing for innovations at PotatoEurope cultivation and technology All options open in the new DeWulf Kwatro bunker harvester After the successful introduction of the Kwatro, at the Potato Demonstration Day in Westmaas, a few weeks ago, it was the turn of this youngest little brother: DeWulf’s new 2-row self-prOpelled bunker harvester, which was given type number 2060. This is a reference to the successful 3060, the 2-row self-prOpelled bunker harvester that has been on the DeWulf list for many years now. For the new 2060, the Belgian manufacturer has used the same division into four model options. The input remains the same: two diabolo rolls, two haulm input wheels and four harvesting discs. All four models are equipped with three webs, whereby the digging web and the first sieving web are similar. Two models are equipped with leaf cleaners and the two others with a dropping web. The options include a grading platform and a unit with grading rolls. This first DeWulf offset lifter has been equipped with a robust pole, and much thought has gone into the balance of the various parts of the machine. In total, this bunker harvester weighs around 10,000 kilograms net, of which 2,000 kilograms rest on the towing hook, in order to achieve a good balance between grip and tracking. Moreover, this offset lifter is equipped with a ring elevator to transport the potatoes to the reading out unit and the bunker belt. From there, the potatoes are moved to the hopper, which has a capacity of 7 tons. To protect the soil, the 2060 is routinely fitted with the widest possible tyres. The rear right tyre measures 1,000-50/25 mm, the rear left measures 850-30.5 mm. This 2060 is suitable / economical for businesses that harvest around 60 to 200 hectares of potatoes per season and which have strong tractors to run this machine. The minimum requirement is 135 hp. In its most simple variant, this harvester costs € 110,000. Van der Peet unloader light as a hummingbird According to Henk van der Peet, the hummingbird is one of the lightest birds in the world. Unlike the bigger birds, this one doesn’t have a spinal column but a skillfully-framed skeleton. In this respect, the characteristics of this feather-light creature correspond to the new trailers with belt unloaders that Van der Peet has recently launched. The 11.20 metres long model, which the Dutch manufacturer has on show at Bockerode, only weighs 4,880 kilograms. According to the manufacturer, this machine is 20 percent lighter than the usual trailers with unloaders and therefore has considerable advantages: more carrying capacity, fewer transport kilometres and therefore less fuel per kilogram of product, etc. The benefit of less weight in the new trailer comes from the construction of a self-supporting structure of light-weight material, in this case aluminium and especially-designed panels. As a result, only a small undercarriage, an axle support, is needed in the heavier steel. The new trailer is also the first to be awarded European approval, according to Van der Peet. For the customers, it has the advantage that inspection costs are lower and that the trailer is more quickly available after it has been ordered. The purchase price depends on the model, according to Van der Peet. The only other thing he wants to tell us about it is that this trailer is 12 to 17 percent more expensive than comparable conventional trailers. 14 Potato World 2010 • number 4 Pagina 13
