That doesn’t really work well, is what Grimme must have thought. So, they took the Multi-Trailer 350 along to PotatoEurope as a ‘more suitable’ experiment. This monster can transport 35 cubic metres of produce, which is the equivalent of a maximum weight of 25 tons of potatoes. The Kröger chassis weighs 4,000 kilograms and the body 3,500 kilograms. To prevent the loaded colossus from making deep wheel marks in the field, the chassis is fitted with six NoKian 620/60 R 26.5s. The idea to start building trailers did not come out of thin air, as Grimme also owns the American potato machinery manufacturer Spudnik, which has been making Bulk Beds for a long time now. Grimme is currently examining whether the European potato growers are also interested in the American idea. This also applies to the special combination of unloader and conveyor belt. For this purpose, Grimme has mounted an SF 30000 conveyor belt to a smaller unloader. To deliver from the field in lorry trailers, this field-loadingstation no longer needs an unloading and transhipment line. A potato grower in Germany who is already using this Grimme system says that he is gaining 20 percent in time. But these trailers with unloaders are not really cheap. The smallest unloader that stores nineteen cubic metres, without chassis, already costs € 39,000. According to Grimme, the starting price of a two-axis chassis easily costs € 20,000. The manufacturer cannot yet give a total price for the Multi-Trailer 350, but they think that it will be around € 100,000. If you want to add another conveyor belt for unloading onto a lorry trailer you will have to pay even more. Automatic layered filling in Miedema box fillers During the storage demonstration, Miedema shows a novelty in box fillers. This is the HMI operator display, which contains all filler programs, including the new automatic layered filling. The options are systematically displayed and operation is simple. Thanks to on-screen pictures, it is clear which options you can choose and which ones you have chosen. The store filler measures the length and width itself by determining the length and height of the extended conveyor belt to the rear wall of a storage cell, for example. Once set, the machine requires no further intervention, it handles the storage all by itself. Should something unexpectedly go wrong, or become jammed or filled up, the whole line stops automatically. By using this system, you can save on the cost of one worker, according to Poot.
