washer Before the product goes into the rotary-drum washer, the machine removes floating elements, stones and clods from the flow of potatoes. The clods are separated with a pump based on specific gravity. To optimise this already-known process, the bin which optimises the separation process is elevated. To get an ideal process chart for haulm removing, with a CFD programme, an advanced computer programme which can show flow charts, the shape of the bin and the location of the prOpeller in the washer are determined. This results in an optimum water flow. As a result, the haulm won’t start whirling and accumulating, and the floating elements will get separated from the potato flow. A fairly heavily muddy lot is ready to be washed. Together, the TGW 1560 washer and the TG KSD stone, clod and haulm separator being demonstrated can wash and clean at least 60 tons per hour. The machine is maintenance-friendly and is designed on the basis of experience and tips from users whom Tolsma Grisnich has supplied with complete washing and grading lines in the past. The people at the maintenance department of the manufacturer have also played an important role in choosing materials and design. All parts that are subject to wear-and-tear can be easily reached. Moreover, a lot has been automated. The machine has its own steering so that everything can be optimally registered and controlled. In addition, the machine has an automatic silt detector which removes the silt exactly at the right time. Potato World 2015 • number 4 27 Pagina 26
