About six years ago, German potato merchants also started attending Agritechnica. The main reason was that the exhibition attracts many international visitors among whom a large Russian delegation. An important potato variety by this company is the Solara, which is very popular, according to Natalia Kuvshinova. The variety is especially popular because of its high yields, excellent storage qualities and resistance to viruses. A new star in the firmament is the Labella. A redskinned table potato for which Kuvshinova expects to receive registration on the Russian varieties list in January 2012. Flow sensor signals blockage Nobody will have been surprised to see all that cultivation machinery at the Lemken stand. What did amaze visitors was that the manufacturer also attracted a lot of attention with spraying technology. Take the Vega 5000, for example, which catches the eye even more than the very latest plough. This machine not only looks smart, it also contains state-of-theart technical innovations. This function is especially welcome in crucial situation such as spraying against Phytophthora infestans. Initial infections mainly occur as a result of spraying errors, and technical defects, such as blocked nozzles, are very often the cause of that. In fact, Lemken was not the only one at the show with this type of inspection technology. Teejet and Inuma also presented nozzles with a similar electronic control function. Cleaning system for spray booms receives award Manufacturers of sprayers do everything possible to make this so-called contaminating technology as clean as possible. Cleaning technology that cleans the interior effectively is available everywhere, but the time has now come to consider the exterior, says Amazone. That is why they have come up with a fully-automatic system for boom cleaning. This clean invention was awarded the Agritechnica innovation prize The Boomwash, as the cleaning unit is called, cleans the spray boom from below. This cleaning operation lasts two minutes and uses 100 litres of water. For the time being, the Boomwash is still only available on this self-prOpelled Pantera sprayer, according to Amazone.
