TRADE AND MARKETING Fruit Logistica: World Network TWO WEIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME It says New in red letters on the CW 10 product weigher of the Propak machinery manufacturer in Geldermalsen. Jouke van der Meer proudly tells us that this is a brand-new machine. The prototype of the weigher was just completed before the start of Fruit Logistica and can be admired here for the very first time. Fruit Logistica in Berlin is an ideal happening to introduce the new weighing machine. ‘Packagers and traders from the whole world are moving around the showground. The nice thing about Fruit Logistica is that you don’t have to travel to faraway countries to meet you clients, because the clients actually come to meet you here. What could be nicer than to be able to present the latest of the latest here? Such as a weigher that can simultaneously weigh two different loads. On the one side of the weigher 25 kilograms go out, for example, and on the other side 20 kilograms’, Van der Meer explains. The weight range that the CW 10 can handle varies from 1 to 25 kilograms. The weigher is also available in a range of different sizes. The smallest version is equipped with 6 weighing buckets and the largest with 24. Unlike the previous model, the entire machine is now made of stainless steel, the salesman tells us. And adds that the CW is also highly suitable for weighing seed potatoes. The 6-bucket model is particularly well-suited for that. In his view, the Propak machine is much more accurate than the electronic weighers many seed potato growers use. DRUM CLEANED FASTER Sormac from Venlo (the Netherlands) manufactures all kinds of machinery for the fruit and vegetable sector. A novelty that the company is showing at Fruit Logistica is the MS 20 knife-peeler for potatoes. It is a drum peeler that is equipped with knives that are stronger and last longer, Chief Engineer Frank Meuffels explains. The drum is now also more accessible than the previous model that Sormac made. It has a cleaning hatch across the entire width, so that the drum can be cleaned more quickly, easily and efficiently. The maximum capacity of the peeling machine is 1,200 kilograms per hour. The price of the new peeler is 65,000 euros. THE FASTEST ROLLER PEELER More Dutch news about machinery can be found in the stand of Marcellissen from Venlo. According to salesman Bob Treuen, what we see here is the fastest roller peeler in the world. The maximum input is no less than 7 tons per hour, which is the 28-rollers model. This is a machine that is built up from modules. The smallest version is a peeler with 16 rollers. You can extend the drum from four rollers at 1,000 euros to 28 rollers in total. This option is interesting for companies that are still in the process of expanding. You don’t have to replace the frame to get more capacity from the peeler, Treuen explains. As the machine must be durable, Marcellissen has thought hard about its maintenance. For example, the drum no longer has a V-belt suspension, but rests on adjustable plastic runners. It is driven by a toothed belt. The roller peeler also has fewer pulleys and that saves on maintenance costs, according to Treuen. Moreover, the framework of the machine is made of stainless steel. The starting price is 40,000 euros for a 16-roller version. Potato World 2012 • number 2 27 Pagina 26
