PW-ACTUA Potato Business School Emmeloord (PBSE) fills knowledge gap For more than five years now, the Potato Business School Emmeloord has been transferring knowledge of potatoes to international groups active in the potato sector. To give the Institute a wide support base, in 2011, eight Emmeloord companies joined forces and, today, 162 international potato professionals have attended specialised potato courses. In this course, the PBSE puts theory and practice together. During the four-day training course, participants are submerged in a broad-based potato programme at the companies of the initiators. Besides the basic course, the PBSE also offers the possibility to do modules, or to plan a personalised course programme. In In the coming years, the PBSE will further increase the courses available the coming years, the PBSE will further increase the courses available. In June and September of this year there will be the English-speaking course. There are also plans for a French-speaking course on the programme in order to provide even more of those who are interested in training in Emmeloord. The course requires an investment of 1,500 euro. In addition to the theoretical and practical transfer of knowledge, former students emphasize that meeting people who work in the potato sector in other countries during the course is also very important. Although the European market doesn’t seems to be short of potatoes we do feel that there is a good interest in the high quality product that the likes of our Israeli growers produce”, Yapro Europe explains the growing season. Israel export’s around 40% of its table potatoes and Yapro understand the importance of this high quality level for our customers and work hard to maintain this along with our tailored service and technical support. “In December, we completed our second season of importing potato seeds to Israel to an expanding group of growers and this has meant we can ensure a full cycle of the product from imported seeds to the final product exported. There is no great change in the acreage planted in Israel this winter although a large amount of new varieties are now starting to replace the more traditional ones. As we prepare for another season of exporting Israeli potatoes, our biggest concern is the impact of the low exchange rates and we hope that the requirement for high quality will allow us to overcome this challenge”, sais Yapro. BRC standard This summer Yapro have implemented a new working systems to strength the working procedure for product safety and in January Yapro has been accredited to BRC standard! “As a leading exporter in Israel we are very proud to be able to rise to the challenge in order to give the customers across Europe a better link in the safety and accreditation chain”, Yapro explains. ● Potato World 2017 • number 1 13 Pagina 12
