RE SEARCH Peter Kooman, Lecturer, Potato Chain and Sector Innovation: ‘Potato sector should focus on reward system rather than punishment’ Upon his inauguration as a lecturer at CAH Vilentum in Dronten, in his inaugural address, Dr. Peter Kooman (52) presented a number of clear messages. It is his view that the potato chain may be good at solving problems but they would do better to focus on preventing them. By organising a chain that focuses on a reward system rather than punishment, they would be taking a huge step forwards. In addition, he points to a number of disconnections between the seed/table potato and seed/chips sectors. B y the end of May, under the watchful eye of his fellow lecturers, Dr. Peter Kooman was inaugurated as lecturer in Potato Chain and Sector Innovation at CAH Vilentum in Dronten. According to Rieke de Vlieger, Director of CAH Vilentum, the lectureship supports the link between education, commerce and research, in order to shape and implement new knowledge and developments in the potato sector. ‘The lectureship is about linking and joining forces. As a result, we’ll be able to offer our students – the entrepreneurs of the future – new insights which may lead to innovation in education. For example, in the next study year, we have a big data minor on the study programme’, the Director says. In his address, Kooman emphasises that the Golden Triangle of Research, Education and Entrepreneurship is important to hold the chain stable also in the future in this fast-changing sector.
